Spoilers: Assumes you know what the Galen case was, which is from season three's “Damaged”. Father Jimmy is from season four's “Demonology”, but all you need to know is that he's a priest and he and Rossi are old friends. Other than that? Nope.
Disclaimer: Really, really not Ed Bernero, Chris Mundy, or anyone connected to the cast and crew of the show. Don't sue, you'll get nothing but massive student loan debt and a couple classrooms of Korean schoolkids.
Author's Notes: Takes place in melliyna's kidverse, where the BAU is an actual family. She's letting me play in her sandbox, her birthday is soonish, and so this is for her. This is also for the rest of my fellow fans, because god knows this fandom needs some cheering-up after "100". The title and bit of quoted song is from the Christmas carol “Do You Hear What I Hear?”

Christmas and David Rossi do not mix under any circumstances. Then the Hotchner clan comes along. This is how Dave Rossi becomes Dad.

I'm a bit flummoxed as to why lots of people seem so depressed right now.
Is it because people actually don't like this storyline?
Or is it just because it's heartbreaking?
Or is there something else that I'm missing?

I was very nervous TPTB would get House and Cuddy together last season or this season, which I Did Not Want. It would have been a simple response to fans' calls to get them together, and it would have had NO chance of lasting. NONE.
Last season, House and Cuddy both knew they desired each other, and cared about each other. But neither actually wanted a relationship with the other (and they both stated as much).
- Cuddy wanted a Perfect Life, with Nice Man, Beautiful Baby and Nice House. House didn't fit The Plan.
- House had major isues with commitment, vulnerability and, uh, everything. And especially with Rachel.
Any relationship they had jumped into would have been based entirely on desire, rather than any considered commitment or understanding of what would be involved being in relationship together. They were not ready.

Once I heard that Cuddy would be dating Lucas, I was OVERJOYED. I took it almost as concrete evidence TPTB intended to get House and Cuddy together by pursuing their storyline long term.
- Cuddy needed to have a relationship with a Nice Guy to get over her desire for a perfect life. She cannot be with House until she chooses him for herself, with all his complications and pain and frustration.
- House needed to understand that a relationship with Cuddy must involve more than snark comments and lots of sex. And that he can't just continually sabotage her relationships to keep her for himself. And that Rachel is incredibly important. And... well, heaps and heaps of stuff.

They have so much to work through. Which they're DOING!

And, OF COURSE, this will involve lots of heartbreak.

I mean, did people expect anything else?

I am starting to wonder if Cuddy/House will end up together at the series finale. I think one thing that has become clear after these last few episodes is that the two have known each other for so long that it's become difficult to except that the other can change. I think maybe the fact that they are always on different pages, and have bee since meeting one another twenty years ago, makes me believe that, at most, they are meant to be soul mate friends more than romantic soul mates. To a degree, they remind me of Lorelai/Christopher from Gilmore Girls. Both had always loved one another and always wanted to be together, but the universe or timing was never in their favor. Then when they did get together it was for all the wrong reasons and of course it didn't last. It just makes me wonder how these two will ever really be together with so many low expectations built between them. After twenty years they haven't seemed to get it right, and I'm wondering if they are ever meant to. What do you guys think?
